This a a page dedicated to the heroes of the club – our volunteers. The club is entirely run by volunteers and they cover everything from maintaining the grounds to coaching the juniors (and the important job of maintaining the website 😉 ).
There are a selection of our team managers and coaches showcased below.
******These are a little out of date so we will be adding to them through the season *********************
We are a really friendly club, so please feel free to talk to any of them (preferable not whilst they are running a coaching session though!)
Currently we are in urgent need of more volunteers to organise social events, write match reports and help prepare the grounds (which is a really interesting artform to get involved in!). We also need coaches and volunteers to help run training sessions and matches – so your kids get to play more cricket. You don’t need to be a first class cricketer to get involved, just have enthusiasm and a little bit of time. Whatever your skills and interests please let me know, there are tasks of all shapes and sizes.
Helping out with training sessions is a really easy, just speak to Sue or one of the team managers to get involved. Everyone running junior sessions requires a valid DBS check, they are quick and easy to carry out online, our safeguarding team will arrange this for you.
If you want to commit further, there are a range of ECB coaching courses, these range from just a few hours to several weekends. They are great fun to do and can give you more confidence in your skills, just speak to our existing coaches. Link below…
Ed Lindsey is the U13 team manager and deputy Chairman and coach (along with all the other jobs he does) “Hey, I’m Ed! I’m involved with both seniors and the juniors. My eldest son plays U17, so I run that “lot” with Stu. They train on a Thursday with the seniors, and it is great to see them competing toe to toe now! My youngest son plays U11. I am a level 2 kids coach, so happy to fit in and help the junior section wherever is needed. It’s a great course, and I would recommend it to any would-be coach. Technical cricket knowledge not required! My day job is deputy chairman of the cricket section. Ie I do the tasks Stu doesn’t want to do! To see the smiles on kids (and adults) faces on a cricket pitch, makes all the hours of graft worth it.” |

Stu Small is the U17 team manager & coach (along with all the other jobs he does) “Hi all, I’m sure I don’t need introducing as I’ve coached nearly all of the kids at some point. I’m currently the Chairman of Cheadle Hulme, along side my other roles as Junior Coach and u17s joint manager, and Lead Allstars activator. I qualified as a level 2 coach a few years ago and over the last few years have been involved in creating the Friday night spectacle you all now see and enjoy, long may in continue. Aside from coaching I attempt to still play when my dodgy knees allow! Aside from cricket I also coach football so I’m busy whatever the season. In my spare time I work for HMRC!!!” Stu is pictured here with his long-suffering wife Helen, who is an All Stars activator. |

Mark Smith is the U15 team manager “I am the U15 team manager, a Junior Cricket representative on the Club’s committee and a level 1 coach. Cricket has always played a major part in my life – school holidays were filled either playing or watching cricket around Sussex and Kent. My adult cricket life has been mostly spectating as a member of both Sussex and Lancashire and following England both home and away. The arrival of my son Oliver put a stop to overseas tours but has given me the opportunity to get involved at the club after he started with All-Stars and helping at U-9’s before becoming team manager for the U11’s in 2020.” |

Charlie Renold is a level 1 coach for the U15s. “Really excited to be helping coach the U15s, after a few years at Stockport Trinity. I’ve been cricket mad since a very young age, when I first played as a junior in my native Birmingham as a leg spinner – a bit before Shane Warne made it cool! |

Karl Roe is a Coach Support worker for U9 and U13. “Hi, I’m Karl and I help out with the U9 and U13 with a son in each section. I played a lot of cricket as a youngster, but then had a long break before my eldest son started at All Stars, which initially led to helping with All Starts and then coaching. I also coach U8 rugby and football and whenever my kids hectic weekend diary allows, I occasionally play for the 3s / 4s.” |
